Theta Facts

  • The first women admitted to Phi Beta Kappa were Thetas.
  • The first women's fraternity to establish a chapter in Canada was Kappa Alpha Theta.
  • The first woman elected to the U.S. Senate in her own right was a Theta.

Famous Alums

Famous Thetas include Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, Tory Burch, Amy Grant, Ann Margaret, Julie Moran, and Sheryl Crow.

Notable University of Oklahoma Theta Omicron Chapter alums include Kim Henry (former First Lady of Oklahoma), Taylor Treat (2009 Miss Oklahoma) Cathy Keating (former First Lady of Oklahoma) and Amy Duncan (Miss Oklahoma 1996).

• Theta Tutoring Program: The women of Kappa Alpha Theta volunteer to tutor each other in courses they have excelled in throughout college.
• No study hours
• Scholarship Requirement: Each member is required to achieve a 2.6 GPA
• 4.0 Awards: Each semester Theta gives a prize to girls who achieved a 4.0
• Test Files: Test files are available to members online or in our study room. as well

Community Service

Thetas are truly aiming to make the "widest influence for good" in our community, state, and world. Many members participate in individual community service, however, we also enjoy serving the community together as a group.

In 2010-2011 our total amount of individual community service hours were 11,094.

A few of our service events include

• KATS Making Tracks 5k run: annual fundraiser 5k run for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Raised $50,000
• Pancake Party: holiday-themed party, raised $15,000 for City Rescue Mission (homeless children mentorship program)
• Lambda/Theta Pumpkin Carve: Halloween Themed Carnival to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters
• Big Event: Campus wide day of service where Theta pairs up with a fraternity and volunteers all day (around 8 hours)
• Shack-A-Thon: build a shack out of card board on south oval and stay there for 24 hours and asked for donations to support Habitat for Humanity
• Arbor Day: nationally celebrated event that encourages tree planting. Theta’s go and plant trees around campus
• Pan Loves Pink: An event where all members of Panhellenic system wear pink to raise awareness for breast cancer. This event was founded by Theta Member, Jordan Naylor.
• Valentine’s Day Theta Thursday: Valentine’s Day event at Theta where we wrote Valentine’s Day Cards to homeless children at City Rescue Mission

• Blessing Bags Theta Thursday: Thetas got together and made blessing bags for homeless people in the area.

Campus Activities
