Annual Events
Panhellenic
Recruitment
Our school year begins with "Work Week" (the week we prepare
for formal recruitment). This occurs in early August.
Formal Recruitment at the University of Oklahoma lasts 4 days, with Bid
Day occurring on the fifth day. Learn more about Panhellenic Recruitment
by visiting the OU
Panhellenic web site.
Football
Season
Sooner home football games bring many visitors to our house for our traditional
game day brunches. On home game days we open our doors to welcome family
and friends to the Theta house before the OU football game at Owen Field.
OU/TX
Weekend and the Bevo Bar-B-Q
The week before the OU vs. UT football game in Dallas the Thetas celebrate
this OU tradition to the fullest as our chapter hosts one of our most
popular annual date parties- the Bevo Bar-B-Q. (Bevo being the University
of Texas mascot.)
CAC
events
The members of Kappa Alpha Theta consistently participate in Campus Activities
Council sponsored activities such as Homecoming, Dance Marathon, University
Sing, Sooner Scandals, Speakers Bureau, Film Series, Howdy Week, Parents
Weekend, Camp Crimson and Family Weekend. These activities provide great
opportunities for Thetas to develop leadership skills and stay involved
on campus as well as in the community.
Lambda
Theta Carve
In 2008, the Theta’s partnered with Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity to host
the first annual Lambda Theta Carve, an event for children in the Big
Brothers Big Sisters Program. During this night, Thetas and Lambdas spend
time carving pumpkins, painting faces, and facilitating carnival games
at a fun Halloween celebration.
 KATS
Making Tracks for CASA
Our major philanthropic event of the year is a 5K run held on the Saturday
morning during Family Weekend. All proceeds raised from entry fees for
the run are donated to the local chapter of CASA (Court Appointed Special
Advocates), Kappa Alpha Theta's national philanthropy. In 2010, the
Theta’s at OU donated over $58,000 to CASA. To learn more about entering
the race or if your business is interested in sponsoring the run next
year, please contact our Service Chair, Erin Delorenzo at thetaou@yahoo.com,
or visit www.theta5k.com.
Officer
Elections
Theta terms of office run from January through December. In late November
our elects the 40 plus new officers that assist in chapter operations.
Pancake
Party
Every December Theta’s put on their favorite “tacky” Christmas sweater
and invite the OU community to enjoy homemade pancakes at the Theta house!
Pancake Party is another one of our favorite annual philanthropy events;
each year we choose a different organization or worthy individual to receive
the funds that earned. In 2009, our chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta donated
$13,000 to All Gods Children, an international adoption agency.
Kite
and Key
Another favorite date party, Kite and Key is our annual formal with the
members of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Founders
Day
We celebrate Kappa Alpha Theta Founder's Day on January 27.
Theta is the first Greek letter fraternity known among women, and was
founded in 1870. The Alpha Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was founded
at the University of Oklahoma in 1909. (Learn more about Theta history
on the history page.)
Casa
Del Theta
Every spring our chapter opens our doors to international students attending
the University of Oklahoma. With Mexican food and music, this social gives
the members of Theta a chance to spread Theta Love by interacting with
students from all around the world.
Spring
Parties
Each year our chapter will host 2-3 date parties during the spring semester.
Every few years the Thetas host a semi-formal called "Pansy Pile"
with the members of Delta Delta Delta (as both sororities share the pansy
motif). Every four years, coinciding with the Olympics, our chapter has
a date party with the members of Pi Beta Phi entitled "Go For the
Gold." A favorite Theta tradition is the annual “Be There… at the
Races” date party which takes place at the horse races.
Princess
Party
Every year we host a party for our very young legacies. A Theta legacy
means a mother, sister, or grandmother was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
This event allows our young legacies to interact with our members through
fun activities. For more information contact Alumni Relations, Taylor
Beth Johnson at OklahomaKAO@yahoo.com. |
